If you’re planning a trip to Vancouver this summer, make sure to include a stop-in at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Located in the heart of downtown in a beautiful, historic 1905 neoclassical-style building that was once a courthouse, the VAG has an impressive permanent collection as well as internationally acclaimed touring exhibitions on display. You can easily spend the day wandering through the gallery’s rooms, perusing prints at the gift shop, and then capping it all off with a coffee at a nearby cafe. Check out these exciting exhibitions that are on right now at the VAG throughout the summer: 

Vikky Alexander: Extreme Beauty 

Spanning over her 30-year career, this is the very first retrospective of Canadian artist Vikky Alexander. Alexander is best known for her photographic work, which includes print photographs of ‘80s fashion editorials. Her pieces challenge the meanings of beauty and desire in consumer culture. The exhibition is on until January 26, 2020, and include over 80 images. 
 

Alberto Giacometti: A Line Through Time 

Swiss artist Alberto Giacometti is one of the 20th century’s most renowned artists, best known for his sculptures. A Line Through Time studies the breadth of Giacometti’s work alongside some of his contemporaries in the post-war period, as well as explores his sources of inspiration and his unique approach to creation. The exhibition is on now until September 29.
