Vancouver is a hub for arts and culture, and its theatre scene is particularly vibrant. From critically acclaimed touring shows to performances created by local talent, there’s always something on stage. And this fall is no exception — with theatre season getting in full swing, it’s the perfect opportunity to get out and take in a show. Here are some of our top picks:
Martyna Majok’s 2018 Pulitzer Prize-winning play is about relationships and physical disabilities. Following the stories of a student with cerebral palsy and his caregiver, and a quadriplegic woman and her ex-husband, the play poses the question: what does it mean to take care of someone? It’s on from October 10 to November 3 at the Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre.
The hills are alive! One of the most beloved musicals of all time, The Sound of Music runs at the historic Stanley Theatre from November 7 to January 5. Sing along to classics like “My Favorite Things” and “Do-Re-Mi” as Maria falls in love with the von Trapp children and then Captain von Trapp himself.
Vancouver playwright Tetsuro Shigematsu’s latest work is about a young girl named Maya — an extreme recluse who has spent the last six years of her life holed up in her bedroom exploring virtual reality — and her quest to re-enter the real world to save her own father’s life. The world premiere is on November 6-17 at the Historic Theatre.
The Georgian Court Hotel offers boutique accommodations in the heart of the city, with a convenient location that makes it easy to get to and from the theatre. Featuring upscale amenities, luxurious rooms and suites, and affordable rates, our downtown Vancouver hotel is the top choice for accommodations in the area.
