There are plenty of ways to celebrate and honour Black History Month, but one of our favourites is to support local black owned businesses. There is no better way to do so than by dining out or in at any of the incredible black owned eateries Vancouver has to offer. Below, we’ve compiled a list of a few of our favourites. We urge all locals and visitors alike to use Black History Month as a jumping off point for exploring more black-owned businesses in Vancouver, both in February and beyond.

Taps & Tacos

Located in Port Moody just up the street from Rocky Point Park, Taps & Tacos is a quaint, trendy restaurant specializing in fresh, local ingredients. Here, you’ll find plenty of craft beer local to BC, as well as seasonal ingredients and free-run meat. Their dishes, which range from shrimp ceviche to mole enchiladas take inspiration from Mexico and other places around the globe. They also have an entire taco menu with the likes of the iconic Al Pastor, roasted cauliflower, and Korean pork. Bowls are offered for a healthier option, as well as several desserts including churros and vegan peanut butter pudding.

Axum

Experience authentic Ethiopian cuisine at Axum Ethiopian Restaurant. Open daily for lunch and dinner, this East African eatery on East Hastings offers delicious injera bread, warm chicken curries, spicy sauteed lamb, and plenty of mouth watering vegetarian dishes, including a vegetarian combo.

Beetbox

Find the best vegan comfort food in the city at Beetbox. This casual eatery specializes in delicious, plant-based cuisine that even carnivores are sure to love. Beetbox offers all your favourite comfort foods, from cheeseburgers to fried chicken to a reuben sandwich, in an innovative plant-based form. They also have warm bowls, including a taco bowl and a peanut tempeh bowl, as well as several tasty sides and salads, like the yam wedges and fried shishito peppers.

If you’re visiting Vancouver anytime soon, then be sure to dine at any of the restaurants above. And if you’re looking for a place to stay, we recommend booking a room at the Georgian Court Hotel. We combine top-notch amenities and a luxurious experience with an unbeatable location in the heart of Vancouver.
