Why Vancouver is the Perfect Destination for Snowbirds

With COVID-19 raging on, many snowbirds have decided against their travel plans to the southern US and beyond. But that doesn’t mean you have to suffer through a harsh winter. Vancouver is an ideal spot for Canadian snowbirds, owing to its milder climate and natural beauty. Below, we highlight a few key reasons why Vancouver provides the perfect destination for snowbirds.

Climate

Unlike the rest of Canada, southern British Columbia has an extremely mild climate. In fact, the average temperature in Vancouver during the winter months of December to February is between 7 and 8 degrees each day (with the lows being about 3 degrees). This means you can largely avoid sub zero temperatures and heavy snowfall by escaping to Vancouver this winter. Being somewhere with a warmer climate makes everything more pleasant. You can go for walks regularly, you don’t have to bundle up every time you leave the house.

Dining

Vancouver is known for its incredible restaurants, and you can find practically any type of cuisine here. In the mood for sushi? Miku Vancouver is the place to go. Feeling like seafood? Joe Fortes and Blue Water Cafe are both within walking distance of the hotel. You’ll also find plenty of incredible Italian restaurants in VanCity, like Ask for Luigi, Lupo and Frankies Italian Kitchen and Bar.

Activities

Due to Vancouver’s milder climate, the winter weather doesn’t put a hamper on outdoor activities the way it does in other parts of Canada. Jogging, hiking, and cycling are still very popular during the colder months. Plus, if you’re into skiing, you have some of the best local ski hills, such as Cypress, Grouse and Seymour less than one hour away.

If you’re a Canadian snowbird and heading south is not an option this winter, visit Vancouver and stay at the Georgian Court Hotel. Our hotel is the perfect home base for exploring this beautiful Canadian city, while escaping the harsh and snowy conditions of most other provinces. We offer quality service and luxurious amenities, not to mention an unbeatable location right in the heart of Vancouver.
